Hope for Tomorrow
"A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation. God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity..."

Mikko Välimaa

Mikko Välimaa has worked for Hope for Tomorrow since 2003. Having spent half of his life in Taiwan where his parents worked as missionaries, Mikko has from a young age gained valuable cross cultural skills and the ability to adapt to and live in new environments. In January 2004, Mikko left for Kenya, initially for half a year. Soon after, Mikko’s job description was modified to full time international coordinator with a portion of his time spent in Finland and the rest in the field in Kenya.

Mikko’s initial work centered on creating programs in Mombasa aimed at supporting Hope for Tomorrow’s school aged children and mothers. His contribution was notable in a three-year project aimed at creating and establishing the first Kenyan partner office in Chaani, on the outskirts of Mombasa. Simultaneously he coordinated with another Hope for Tomorrow partner organization on a rural project north of Nairobi, in an area called Muranga.

Recently, together with Kenyans, Mikko has been helping to establish links between Hope for Tomorrow and its newest partner organization, the Redeemed Gospel Church located in Kisumu.

In Kenya, Mikko maintains contact with schoolchildren and families who are being sponsored by Hope for Tomorrow. He is involved in organizing meetings and camps for sponsored schoolchildren and their mothers, which take place at regular intervals.

When in Finland, Mikko takes care of communication between Hope for Tomorrow and its partner organizations as well as meets with the Board of Trustees. He also takes care of administrative matters related to finances and bookkeeping and visits with local sponsors and interested parties. In 2005, Mikko took part in Hope for Tomorrow’s educational campaign, which organized a total of 72 school visits in Finland. During the summer of 2009, he also organized a month long tour of meetings for Kenyan visitors.

Hope for Tomorrow is proud to support Mikko through financial support provided by committed sponsors.
