Zion Community Clinic
Mtwapa Creek is located
some 15 kilometers north of Mombasa. The areas
on both sides of the creek are known by the same
name as the creek itself.
The stretch of Indian
Ocean coastline between Mombasa and Mtwapa is
marked by many resorts and hotels. Tourism in
all its forms has played a role in how the residential
areas of Mtwapa have developed; both wealthy locals
wanting to get away from the dust and noise of
the city and those living in more congested, less
developed neighborhoods inhabit the area. In one
such part of Mtwapa the Redeemed Gospel Church
of Kenya has established the private Zion Community
Clinic; an HIV/AIDS clinic and counseling center.
With a memory of a time
when they themselves lived in the neighborhood
in a room of modest accomodation some ten years
before, Swedish Pia Lind and Finnish Kirsi Nyrhinen,
both missionaries serving at the Redeemed Gospel
Church's Jesus Celebration Centre in Mombasa,
have been active in starting the clinic.
Hope for Tomorrow - Toivoa
huomiseen has been involved by financially supporting
the Zion Community Clinic project.
