Heikki's and Maria's greetings
from Mombasa
March 21, 2005
Hello to all of you, HfT-people,
brothers, sisters, friends, etc.
It's been a while and a
lot has transpired since we last wrote you, so
we thought it was high time to drop you a line
or two from Mombasa and let home know what's up.
During this time in Mombasa
two significant evangelistic campaigns have taken
place. First, a muslim-turned-christian Christopher
Alaam preached four days at the Mombasa Big Crusade
organized by the JCC Church. Helping out as ushers
we witnessed the ears of the deaf popping open
and many other miraculous healings. And of course
there were hundreds of people who were born again!
The Lord always moves when His Word is preached,
confirming it with signs and wonders following.
The second campaign, which
was organized by Hope for Tomorrow and Outi, was
with preacher Glory Backman from the Cityseurakunta
of Turku. Mikko Välimaa did an excellent job with
organizing the meetings - the job usually taking
months was done in just two weeks! The campaign
was held in a field in Chaani just outside the
border of the slum, near the oil dock. Again,
people were born again and signs and wonders followed
the Word being preached. And what was best, the
local pastors took part of the campaign so new
Christians could immediately be led into their
churches. The pastors thought these meetings were
a success. Outi will surely tell you much more
with regard to the campaign.
We have been busy with
school, the pace has been fast, but tomorrow we
will be happy to begin our week long Easter vacation.
We have also been around the Chaani area evangelizing
and teaching, and again people have been getting
saved and healed! It has been such an awesome
thing to see positive changes in the lives of
people, as the Lord gives new hope.
The hot days are gradually
beginning to turn toward the rainy season, but
it is still very hot, and the last couple of weeks
have been almost unbearable. We've bought ourselves
boots and soon we'll get raincoats for our trips
to school, because when it starts raining around
here we're really talking about some rain.
The last quarter left of
our year in Bible school is just around the corner,
and our thoughts are almost on returning home.
But it's not over till it's over, and we will
take with us all we possibly can. The church here
is what we will miss the most.
Blessings to you all, have
a nice spring, and let's hold high the flag of
the Lord, right?! In Him we have our all.
Hebrews 4:14-16 (NKJV) - "Seeing
then that we have a great High Priest who has
passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God,
let us hold fast our confession. For we do
not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with
our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted
as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore
come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may
obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of
need."
