Mikko Mombasassa
January 11, 2005
This afternoon the father
of a young woman who we have been sponsoring brought
to Camp David Centre the sad news that his daughter
had died last night in the hospital. She was 27
years old. For the last two and a half years she
had been so sick that her legs didn't work anymore,
so the father took care of her at home. They had
tried to get help from most of the hospitals in
the city, and family possessions had been sold
to pay for the hospital bills. This was the father's
second daughter who had died from the HIV-virus.
Last Thursday we went to
the hospital to pray for two young women. We also
bought for them some toiletries, fruit, juice,
and gave the father some money to make soup. In
spite of the other young woman being from another
tribe, the father promised to make her some soup,
too. Those in the chronic disease unit get very
little attention if it wasn't for the care from
the relatives...
According to the tradition
of Islam, the girl had already been buried when
we arrived to the family's home with the father.
The house was full of relatives and friends. The
father told us that those sick in the family should
be taken care by the loved ones, but when death
occurs, relatives and the community can participate.
He thanked the Lord Jesus for the help that he
had received through us.
We ate, prayed and brought
greetings to the family all the way from Finland.
The girl has now passed away, but is healed and
healthy in heaven.
