Mikko in Nairobi

June 16, 2005

Thursday morning chapel at Daystar University's Athi River campus

Tuesdays and Thursdays begin with a morning chapel devotion lasting from about 60 to 90 minutes, so the lectures start a little later on those days. Today the devotion began (like many times before) with songs in english and swahili as led by the worship team.

A guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Jamie Jones from the United States has been invited to speak. Here is what he said in a small nutshell...

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)
"And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

Paul, having been the Lord's enemy, experienced both the glory and the humility of suffering. However, it was for all to see that His grace is sufficient.

Rev. Dr. Jamie Jones walked us through his life from his first memories of a violent and alcoholic father to a loving mother, from his own life of wealth and success filled with his abuse of alcohol and cocaine to seeing everything crumble before his eyes - the death of his parents and best friends, and his wife's serious traffic accident.

Having known his wife from their former shared lifestyle, Jamie was surprised to hear her forming her first sentence after learning to speak again after being in a coma. She said to her mother:

"Jesus still loves me, doesn't He?"

To close, Jamie joined his wife Mimi and many others in Paul's words:

His grace is sufficient for me.
